LumiClip vs Opus Clip: LumiClip is cheaper ($9.99/month for 6 hours) and auto-clips up to 10 channels, while OpusClip handles 10-hour videos. OpusClip also has the deeper editing suite.

Updated: 24 October 2026

We make LumiClip, so weigh our view accordingly. We've listed every area where OpusClip is stronger, and there are several.

This page compares the two clippers on the three things people ask us about most: price per hour of video, how much runs without you, and how each tool picks and frames clips. Every price and limit below was checked on the vendors' own pages on 24 October 2026. We haven't run a paid side-by-side quality test, so the clip quality section explains how each tool works and how to test it yourself.

Is LumiClip or Opus Clip better?

LumiClip is the better pick if you want the lowest monthly bill and clips that post themselves from up to 10 YouTube or Twitch channels. OpusClip is better if your sources run past 4 hours (it accepts up to 10), or you need Premiere Pro export, dubbing and AI B-roll. Prices start at $9.99/month for LumiClip Starter and $15/month for OpusClip Starter, as of October 2026.

For quick context, LumiClip is an AI video clipper that turns long videos into short vertical clips for TikTok, Reels and YouTube Shorts. OpusClip is the best-known tool in the same category, and the one most people compare us with.

How much do LumiClip and Opus Clip cost?

LumiClip Starter is $9.99/month for 360 credits, and OpusClip Starter is $15/month for 150 credits. Both tools count one credit as one minute of video, so LumiClip Starter covers 6 hours a month and OpusClip Starter covers 2.5 hours. Those are monthly list prices as of October 2026, per the LumiClip pricing page and the OpusClip pricing page.

Here are the plans side by side, with the same labels for each tool.

LumiClip pricing

  • Free: 60 credits once (1 hour of video), uploads up to 1 hour, 720p export with a watermark, no social posting. No card needed.
  • Try-Out: $7.99 one-time for 180 credits, watermark-free 1080p, uploads up to 3 hours.
  • Starter: $9.99/month for 360 credits (6 hours), or $59.94 a year. Uploads up to 4 hours, 1080p with no watermark, 6 social accounts, 100 posts a month and the auto-scheduler.
  • Pro: $24.99/month for 1,200 credits (20 hours), or $149.94 a year. Adds the automation agent, advanced AI models, 20 social accounts and unlimited posts.
  • Cost per source hour: about $1.67 on Starter and $1.25 on Pro, monthly. Billed yearly, about $0.83 and $0.62.

OpusClip pricing

  • Free: 60 credits a month, with a watermark. Clips stop being exportable after 3 days.
  • Starter: $15/month for 150 credits (2.5 hours), monthly billing only. Watermark-free, auto-posting to YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram Reels, one brand template, 29-day media storage.
  • Pro: $29/month for 300 credits (5 hours), or $14.50/month billed yearly ($174 a year). Adds the social scheduler, AI B-roll, Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve export, video dubbing, a two-seat team workspace, limited API access and the MCP connector. Unused credits roll over for two months.
  • Cost per source hour: about $6.00 on Starter and $5.80 on Pro, monthly. Pro billed yearly is about $2.90.

What a typical month costs

Say you clip five 1-hour podcast episodes a month, so 5 hours of video. OpusClip Starter's 2.5 hours won't cover it, so you'd need Pro at $29/month, or $14.50/month if you pay for the year upfront. LumiClip Starter covers it at $9.99/month with an hour to spare.

For a wider view of the market, our cheaper Opus Clip alternatives guide prices seven tools the same way.

Can Opus Clip handle longer videos than LumiClip?

Yes. OpusClip supports videos up to 10 hours long, while LumiClip accepts uploads up to 4 hours on Starter and Pro. The 10-hour limit comes from OpusClip's help center article on video length. If you clip full-day livestreams, conference recordings or marathon streams, OpusClip is the simpler choice.

With LumiClip, a 9-hour stream would need to be cut into sections under 4 hours before upload, and any moment that spans a cut point could be missed. That's a real limitation, and we'd rather you know it now.

Keep the credit cost in mind, though. A single 10-hour source uses 600 credits on either tool. That's twice the 300 credits in one OpusClip Pro pack, and half of LumiClip Pro's 1,200 credits.

Which tool automates more of the clipping work?

LumiClip automates more. Its automation agent, on the Pro plan, watches up to 10 YouTube or Twitch channels, then clips, captions and publishes new uploads to TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube Shorts on its own. OpusClip's Auto Import clips new uploads from your own YouTube channel only. That difference matters most for clip-channel operators and agencies.

Here's how the two automation features compare, based on each vendor's own documentation:

  • What it watches: LumiClip's agent can follow any 10 YouTube channels or Twitch streamers you pick. OpusClip's Auto Import connects to your own YouTube account and can be limited to specific playlists.
  • What it skips: OpusClip Auto Import only picks up public videos longer than 3 minutes uploaded after setup. It skips Shorts and livestreams, so Twitch-style stream archives aren't covered.
  • How often it checks: OpusClip checks for new videos every hour. Credits are charged on the full video length.
  • What happens next: LumiClip's agent can publish on the schedule you set. OpusClip creates the projects, and you review them and post or schedule them from there.
  • Which plan you need: the LumiClip agent is on Pro ($24.99/month). OpusClip Auto Import is on Starter and Pro.

If you want to see the agent set up step by step, our guide on how to auto-clip a YouTube channel to TikTok walks through it.

Both tools also connect to AI assistants. LumiClip has an MCP server at mcp.lumiclip.ai/mcp (package @lumiclip/mcp-server) plus a developer API. Our guide to setting up a Claude MCP video clipper shows how to connect it to Claude Desktop and Claude Code step by step. OpusClip lists an MCP connector and limited API access on Pro, with full API access on Business.

How do LumiClip and Opus Clip pick clips?

Both tools score every part of your video and surface the moments most likely to hold attention. LumiClip scores segments on hook strength, speech clarity, visual variety and emotional peaks. OpusClip gives each clip a Virality Score and, on Pro, lets you search topics or describe the moment you want in a prompt. Neither score predicts views, so treat both as a sorting aid.

The practical differences are in how much you can steer the AI:

  • LumiClip: you get ranked clips with a score, then fine-tune any clip in the editor. You can retrim, adjust caption timing, swap B-roll or change the crop. Starter and Pro list 2-3 times more clips per video than the free plan.
  • OpusClip: Starter and up let you reprompt clipping to fine-tune results. Pro adds topic search and prompt-to-clip, which helps when you know exactly which segment you want, such as "the part about pricing".

How to test clip quality yourself

The fairest test is your own footage. Here's the method we suggest, and it costs nothing on either free plan:

  • Step 1: Pick one 40-60 minute video you know well, ideally one where you already know the best moments.
  • Step 2: Run it through LumiClip's free plan and OpusClip's free plan with default settings.
  • Step 3: Compare the top five clips from each. Does the clip open on a strong line? Does it end on a complete thought?
  • Step 4: Watch the framing on a phone. Is the right person on screen when they speak?
  • Step 5: Check the captions for names, numbers and jargon.

Both free plans add a watermark, so this tests the AI's choices rather than the final export.

Which tool frames speakers and captions better?

Both tools reframe 16:9 video to 9:16 and track the active speaker. OpusClip offers more layout options (Fill, Fit, Split, Three, Four and Screenshare) and, on Pro, 1:1 and 16:9 outputs. LumiClip keeps the active speaker centred across cuts and writes word-level animated captions in 30+ languages, against OpusClip's 20+. Which is "better" depends on your format.

Framing and captions in LumiClip

  • Reframing: auto 9:16 with active-speaker tracking. Per its active-speaker reframing page, it switches between single-speaker, split-screen and picture-in-picture layouts as the conversation moves.
  • Captions: word-level animated captions with an editable transcript, in 30+ languages with automatic language detection.
  • Branding: Brand Kit presets for logos, fonts, colours and caption styles. Starter includes 2 brand templates and Pro includes 10.
  • Strengths: more caption languages, and brand presets apply automatically to every clip the agent ships.
  • Watch out for: LumiClip lists three layouts (single, split and picture-in-picture) but no dedicated three- or four-person layout like OpusClip's Three and Four, so test a panel recording before you rely on it.

For a step-by-step workflow, including which layout to use for each moment, see our guide on how to turn a two-speaker podcast into YouTube Shorts.

Framing and captions in OpusClip

  • Reframing: seven layouts, per its layout and reframing help article. Split shows two speakers together, and Three and Four suit panels. Moving object tracking is on Pro.
  • Captions: animated captions in 20+ languages with emoji and keyword highlights. Pro adds custom fonts and a default curse-word filter.
  • Branding: one brand template on Starter, up to four on Pro.
  • Strengths: more layout control for panels and screen-share recordings, plus extra aspect ratios on Pro.
  • Watch out for: speaker-based caption colours are listed on Business only.

Where is Opus Clip stronger than LumiClip?

OpusClip is stronger for long sources, editing depth and team workflows. If any of these matter to you, it's worth the higher price:

  • 10-hour sources: OpusClip accepts videos up to 10 hours. LumiClip's limit is 4 hours.
  • Editing suite: Pro includes AI B-roll, AI voice-over, video dubbing, speech enhancement, eye-contact correction and export to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.
  • Credit rollover: unused Pro credits roll over for two months. LumiClip credits reset each billing cycle.
  • Prompt-based clipping: topic search and prompt-to-clip on Pro.
  • Business tier: SSO, custom credits and a dedicated support channel for larger teams.
