To auto-clip a YouTube channel to TikTok, connect a channel-watching AI clipper once: it spots new uploads, cuts vertical clips and posts them on a schedule. This guide shows the full setup, the settings that matter, and when to stay manual.

Updated: 21 October 2026

We make LumiClip, an AI video clipper that turns long videos into short vertical clips for TikTok, Reels and YouTube Shorts, so we use it for the walkthrough. The steps work the same way in most channel-watching tools, and we point out where others are a better fit.

How do you auto-clip a YouTube channel and post to TikTok?

You need a tool that watches the channel, not one that waits for uploads. Add the channel URL, connect your TikTok account, pick a caption template and a posting schedule. From then on, each new long video is detected, scored for its best moments, reframed to 9:16, captioned and queued for TikTok without you opening an editor.

That is the whole loop. The rest of this guide covers what to set up before you switch it on, so the clips that go out actually look like yours.

What do you need before you start?

Three things: permission to clip the channel, a TikTok account you can connect, and a channel that uploads long-form video. Shorts-only channels give an AI clipper little to work with. Have these ready:

  • The channel URL or handle. Your own channel, a guest's channel, or a creator who has given you permission or runs a clipping program.
  • A TikTok account you can log in to, so the tool can post on your behalf. Third-party tools post through TikTok's official Content Posting API, so you approve access in a TikTok login window rather than handing over a password.
  • Your branding: logo, font, caption colours and an on-screen hook style. You set this once.
  • A plan that includes automation. On LumiClip, the automation agent is part of the Pro plan ($24.99/month as of October 2026, per the LumiClip pricing page). The free plan (60 minutes a month) is fine for testing clip quality by hand first.

How to set up auto-clipping from YouTube to TikTok

Here is the setup in LumiClip's YouTube automation agent. It takes about five minutes.

Step 1: Test clip quality on one video first

Before you automate anything, paste one recent video from the channel into the regular clipper. Look at the clips it picks, the reframing and the captions. If the picks are good on a manual run, they will be good on autopilot, because the agent uses the same ranking model as the manual flow. LumiClip scores every segment on hook strength, speech clarity, visual variety and emotional peaks.

Step 2: Add the YouTube channel to watch

Open the automation agent and paste the channel handle or URL. You can add up to 10 YouTube channels per workflow, so one setup can cover your main channel, your podcast channel and a guest's channel. The agent resolves each handle to a fixed channel ID once, so renaming a channel won't break it.

Step 3: Connect TikTok (and anything else)

Connect your TikTok account. While you are there, you can also connect Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn; the same clips are posted to every connected account. Each platform gets its own caption format: YouTube gets a title and description, while TikTok, Instagram and Facebook get one caption with hashtags inline.

Step 4: Pick a brand template

Choose the template the agent applies to every clip: caption preset, hook text style and position, logo placement and music. If you don't have one yet, the agent creates a default with bold word-by-word captions and an AI hook. You can swap templates later, and the next clip uses the new one.

Step 5: Choose schedule mode or drafts mode

This is the most important setting.

  • Schedule mode (the default) posts automatically. The first clip goes out one hour after a new upload is detected, then one every two hours per account.
  • Drafts mode does everything except post. Clips land in the Posts tab, so you can check captions and timing before they go live.

Start in drafts mode for the first week. Once you trust the picks, switch to schedule mode.

Step 6: Let it run, then check the log

From here, the agent polls the channel every two hours through the YouTube Data API. You get an email each time clips are scheduled, and the Automation tab logs every detected upload, every scheduled post and the reason anything was skipped.

How often will clips post to TikTok?

Each new upload produces exactly three clips, posted on a stagger rather than all at once. With LumiClip, the three highest-scoring moments go out at one hour, three hours and five hours after the upload is detected. A channel that uploads weekly gives you three TikToks a week; a daily channel gives you three a day.

A few limits keep this predictable:

  • Video length: the agent skips anything under 5 minutes (usually Shorts) and anything over 4 hours.
  • Live streams: these are deferred until YouTube re-lists them as a normal video.
  • Daily caps: at most 3 videos per workflow and 5 per user per day, so a channel that posts ten videos in a day can't drain your credits.
  • Credits: one credit is one minute of source video. Pro includes 1,200 credits a month, about 20 hours of source video. If three videos in a row are skipped for low credits, the workflow pauses and emails you.
  • No backfill: only uploads after setup are clipped. For older videos, use the manual clipper (see how to turn a 60-minute YouTube video into Shorts).

All of these details come from the LumiClip YouTube automation agent page, checked on 21 October 2026.

Can you auto-clip someone else's YouTube channel?

Technically yes, but only do it with permission. Clipping tools can watch any public channel, but posting another creator's footage without a licence can get your TikTok posts removed and your account flagged. The safe routes are your own channels, creators who agreed in writing, and official creator clipping programs that pay clippers to post.

If you also plan to monetise clips on YouTube, read YouTube's reused content policy. It allows reused material only when "viewers can tell that there's a meaningful difference between the original video and your video", and it applies to the channel as a whole. Captions alone may not count as a meaningful change, so add commentary, context or a strong hook.

What are the other ways to auto-post YouTube clips to TikTok?

There are three routes: a channel-watching clipper, a DIY automation, or a manual clipper with a scheduler. Pick based on how much you post and how much you want to touch it.

Channel-watching AI clippers

These tools do the whole loop. Besides LumiClip, AutoClip, Ssemble, ForgedClips and Razycut all offer channel monitoring with auto-posting.

  • Strengths: zero manual work once set up, and consistent posting.
  • Watch out for: channel limits per plan. For example, AutoClip's YouTube to TikTok page lists 1 watched channel on Starter ($19.99/month), 3 on Pro and 10 on Scale, as of October 2026. AutoClip also produces more clips per video (around 9 on a typical upload) if you want volume over selectivity.

DIY with n8n or Zapier

You can build a workflow that triggers on a new YouTube upload and sends it to a clipping API, then on to TikTok.

  • Strengths: full control and fits into bigger automations.
  • Watch out for: you still need a clipper with an API (LumiClip has a REST API and MCP server on Pro), and you have to maintain the workflow when something changes.

Manual clipper plus a scheduler

Upload each video yourself, pick clips in the editor and schedule them.

  • Strengths: you choose every clip, which matters for sensitive topics or brand accounts.
  • Watch out for: it only works as long as you keep doing it. Miss a week and nothing posts.

If you only upload once a month, the manual route is honestly enough, and LumiClip's free plan or Starter ($9.99/month) covers it. If price is the deciding factor, see our price check of the cheapest AI video clippers without a watermark. Automation pays off when you have several channels or a weekly-or-faster upload schedule. How do you make auto-clipped TikToks perform better?

Automation handles volume; you still control the inputs. The settings that make the biggest difference are the brand template, the hook text and the source content itself.

  • Use bold, word-level captions. They keep the clip readable for anyone scrolling with the sound low, and LumiClip's animated captions work in 30+ languages with automatic detection.
  • Keep the speaker in frame. Auto 9:16 reframing with speaker tracking follows whoever is talking, which matters for podcasts and interviews.
  • Review a sample every week. Open the Posts tab and check whether the picks match what your audience responds to. If a clip type keeps flopping, change the source or the template.
  • Feed it clipable videos. Talk-heavy content with clear moments (podcasts, interviews, commentary, streams) clips better than slow B-roll or music videos.

FAQ

Is there a free way to auto-post YouTube clips to TikTok?

Mostly no. Free tiers usually include watermarked test clips but not scheduled auto-posting. On LumiClip, the automation agent needs Pro; the free plan lets you test clip quality by hand.

Does LumiClip post to TikTok automatically?

Yes. In schedule mode, the automation agent posts the top three clips from each new upload to your connected TikTok account, one hour after detection and then every two hours.

How quickly are new YouTube uploads detected?

LumiClip polls each watched channel every two hours. Most uploads are picked up on the next poll after YouTube makes them public, but low-traffic channels can take longer for YouTube itself to index.

Can I review clips before they go to TikTok?

Yes. Switch the workflow to drafts mode and clips are saved in the Posts tab for review instead of being published.

Can I clip Twitch streams the same way?

Yes. LumiClip also has a Twitch automation agent that watches streamers' channels and posts clips the same way.

How many YouTube channels can I watch at once?

Up to 10 channels per workflow on LumiClip. Other tools cap this by plan, so check before you buy if you run a clip channel. Our guide to auto-clipping multiple YouTube channels compares the channel limits plan by plan.

Should you automate YouTube-to-TikTok clipping?

If you upload weekly or more, or clip several channels, yes. Set up one workflow in drafts mode, check a week of clips, then switch to schedule mode and let it run. If you upload rarely, a manual clipper is cheaper and gives you more control.

To try it, run one of your videos through LumiClip for free, then compare plans on the pricing page when you are ready to automate.
