The cheaper Opus Clip alternative we'd test first is LumiClip: $9.99/month for 6 hours of video, about $1.67 per source hour versus $6 on OpusClip Starter. Below, seven tools are priced the same way.

Updated: 28 October 2026

We make LumiClip, so weigh our view accordingly. We've listed where each competitor is stronger, including one tool that beats us on price per hour for long videos.

If you're leaving OpusClip because of the bill, the monthly price is only half the story. What matters is how many hours of source video each plan lets you clip. This guide works out the cost per source hour for seven watermark-free alternatives, flags the popular tools that are not actually cheaper, and ends with a switching checklist. Every price was checked on the vendor's own pricing page on 23 October 2026.

What is the cheapest Opus Clip alternative?

On monthly billing, the cheapest per-hour Opus Clip alternatives we priced are Katto (from about €0.40-€0.89 per source hour if your videos are long), LumiClip ($1.25-$1.67) and 2short.ai ($1.00-$1.98). OpusClip costs $5.80-$6.00 per source hour month to month. All of these export without a watermark on paid plans, as of October 2026.

If you want the lowest monthly bill and clipping, captions and scheduling in one place, start with LumiClip Starter at $9.99/month. If you mostly clip one long episode a week, Katto's per-video pricing can be cheaper still.

How much does OpusClip cost per hour of video?

OpusClip Starter costs $15/month for 150 credits, and one credit is one minute of video, so you pay about $6.00 per hour of source video. That's as of October 2026, per the OpusClip pricing page. Pro is $29/month for 300 credits, or $5.80 per hour. Billed yearly, Pro drops to $14.50/month, which is $2.90 per hour.

That yearly Pro price is the number to beat. Here's what you get for it on OpusClip:

  • Starter ($15/month, monthly only): watermark removal, AI clipping with a virality score, animated captions in 20+ languages, auto-posting to YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram Reels, and one brand template. Media storage expires after 29 days.
  • Pro ($29/month, or $14.50/month billed yearly): everything in Starter, plus a social media scheduler, AI B-roll, export to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, a two-seat team workspace, and unused credits that roll over for two months.
  • Free: 60 credits a month, with a watermark. Clips can no longer be exported after 3 days.

How we worked out cost per source hour

We divided each plan's monthly price by the hours of source video it includes. That's the fairest way to compare tools that charge per minute, per credit, per video or per clip. For every tool we recorded the same things:

  • Price (as of October 2026): the cheapest watermark-free plan, month to month, plus the yearly price where shown.
  • Cost per source hour: price divided by included hours. Where a tool meters by video or by clip, we show a worked example and say what we assumed.
  • Free plan: what you can test before paying.
  • Strengths: where the tool is genuinely better.
  • Watch out for: limits that change the real cost.

We didn't run a paid clip-quality test for this post, so treat it as a price and limits comparison. Run your own footage through two or three free plans before you commit.

Which Opus Clip alternatives are cheaper?

Seven tools came in cheaper per source hour than OpusClip's monthly plans: LumiClip, Katto, 2short.ai, Vizard, Descript, Klap and Submagic (Klap only under the assumptions shown, and Submagic only for short videos). They're ordered by how directly they replace OpusClip, not only by price.

1. LumiClip: lowest monthly bill with auto-publishing

LumiClip is an AI video clipper that turns long videos into short vertical clips for TikTok, Reels and YouTube Shorts.

  • Price (as of October 2026): Starter is $9.99/month and Pro is $24.99/month, per the LumiClip pricing page. Billed yearly, Starter is $59.94 a year and Pro is $149.94 a year.
  • Cost per source hour: Starter includes 360 credits (6 hours), so about $1.67 per hour. Pro includes 1,200 credits (20 hours), about $1.25 per hour. On yearly billing that falls to about $0.83 and $0.62.
  • Free plan: 60 credits once (one hour of video), 720p with a watermark, no card needed. There's also a $7.99 one-time Try-Out with 180 credits and watermark-free 1080p exports.
  • Strengths: 1080p watermark-free exports, uploads up to 4 hours, word-level animated captions in 30+ languages, and an auto-scheduler on Starter. Pro adds the automation agent, which watches up to 10 YouTube or Twitch channels and clips and publishes new uploads on its own. There's also an MCP server at mcp.lumiclip.ai/mcp for Claude and Cursor.
  • Watch out for: OpusClip Pro has a bigger editing suite, with Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve export and video dubbing. The automation agent is on Pro, not Starter.

2. Katto: cheapest per hour for long videos

  • Price (as of October 2026): Solo is €8.90/month, or €4.90/month billed yearly. Creator is €14.90/month, or €11.90/month billed yearly, per the Katto pricing page.
  • Cost per source hour: Katto charges per video, not per minute. Solo covers 10 videos a month up to 60 minutes each, so about €0.89 per hour if every video is a full hour. Creator covers 25 videos up to 90 minutes, which Katto puts at about 37 hours a month, or roughly €0.40 per hour.
  • Free plan: 2 videos a month, up to 30 minutes each, at 720p with a Katto watermark.
  • Strengths: if your episodes are long, this is the lowest per-hour price we found. The REST API and MCP server are on every plan, including free.
  • Watch out for: short videos cost the same as long ones, so a 20-minute video uses a full slot. Scheduling, split-screen and voice cleanup are on Creator, not Solo.

3. 2short.ai: simple hours-based plans for YouTube links

  • Price (as of October 2026): Lite is $9.90/month, Pro $19.90/month and Premium $49.90/month, per the 2short.ai pricing page.
  • Cost per source hour: Lite includes 5 hours of AI video analysis, so about $1.98 per hour. Pro is about $1.33 and Premium about $1.00.
  • Free plan: 30 minutes of AI analysis a month.
  • Strengths: every feature is on every plan, and tiers only change analysis hours. Exports are 1080p with no watermark.
  • Watch out for: its FAQ says it can only process videos with captions. Lite caps fast server-side exports at 60 minutes a month, and the pricing page doesn't list a scheduler.

4. Vizard: half OpusClip's per-hour price at the same $29

  • Price (as of October 2026): Creator is $29/month, or $14.50/month billed yearly ($174 a year), per the Vizard pricing page. Business is $39/month.
  • Cost per source hour: Creator starts at 600 credits a month, and one credit is one minute, so about $2.90 per hour, or $1.45 billed yearly.
  • Free plan: 60 credits a month, 720p export, 10-minute export length and 3-day storage.
  • Strengths: 4K export, scheduling to six social accounts, uploads up to 600 minutes on paid plans, and API access on every plan.
  • Watch out for: the monthly bill is as high as OpusClip Pro. The savings come from the larger minute allowance, so it only pays off if you clip a lot.

5. Descript: an editor that also makes clips

  • Price (as of October 2026): Hobbyist is $24/month, or $16/month billed yearly. Creator is $35/month, or $24/month billed yearly, per the Descript pricing page.
  • Cost per source hour: Hobbyist includes 10 media hours, so about $2.40 per hour ($1.60 yearly). Creator includes 30 hours, about $1.17 ($0.80 yearly).
  • Free plan: 60 media minutes a month to try it.
  • Strengths: text-based editing, Studio Sound and filler-word removal. Its Create Clips tool sits inside a full editor, which suits creators who edit the long version too.
  • Watch out for: it's an editor first. Expect more hands-on work per clip than with a dedicated AI clipper.

6. Klap: pay per clip, not per minute

  • Price (as of October 2026): Basic is $29/month for 100 clips, or $14/month billed yearly. Pro is $79/month for 300 clips, or $39/month yearly, per the Klap pricing page.
  • Cost per source hour: it depends on how many clips you keep from each hour. As a worked example, if you generate 10 clips per hour of video, Basic covers 10 hours, about $2.90 per hour ($1.40 yearly). Take more clips per hour and the cost goes up.
  • Free plan: one free video. Klap says clips have no watermark on any plan, including free.
  • Strengths: unlimited social accounts on every plan, videos up to 4 hours, plus an API and an MCP server.
  • Watch out for: heavy clippers burn through 100 clips quickly. At monthly prices, the per-clip model only beats OpusClip if you're selective.

7. Submagic: cheaper only for short videos

  • Price (as of October 2026): Starter is $19/month, or $12/month billed yearly, per the Submagic pricing page. Every paid plan exports without a watermark.
  • Cost per source hour: Starter is for videos up to 2 minutes, so it isn't a long-video clipper on its own. Long videos go through Magic Clips, which Submagic's help center now prices at 8 credits each from the plan's monthly balance (Starter has 45 credits), as of 28 October 2026. Earlier in October it was listed as a $19/month add-on for 10 uploads. Because Submagic charges per Magic Clip rather than per minute, there's no reliable per-hour figure; our Submagic alternatives for long videos guide works through what the credits cover.
  • Free plan: the pricing page lists paid plans only.
  • Strengths: some of the best animated captions, B-roll and zooms for short videos you've already cut.
  • Watch out for: Starter's 45 credits cover at most five Magic Clips charges a month, and the help center doesn't state a maximum length per Magic Clips upload.

Which popular tools are not cheaper than OpusClip?

Several tools that appear on "Opus Clip alternatives" lists cost more per hour, or solve a different problem. We checked these too:

  • quso.ai (formerly vidyo.ai): Lite is $29/month for 100 credits, and one credit is about one minute, so roughly $17.40 per hour (as of October 2026, per the quso.ai pricing page). That's pricier per hour than OpusClip.
  • Riverside: Pro is $35/month, or $29/month billed yearly, per the Riverside pricing page. It's a recording and podcast suite with Magic Clips included, great if you also record there, but not a cheaper clipper.
  • Gling: Plus is $20/month for 10 hours of AI-edited media, per the Gling pricing page, about $2 per hour. It's built to cut bad takes and silences from talking-head recordings, so it's an editing tool more than an OpusClip replacement.
  • Veed: Creator is $12 per user per month billed annually, per the Veed pricing page. It's a general online editor with AI credits, so it doesn't map neatly to cost per source hour.

When should you stay on OpusClip?

Stay on OpusClip if you rely on Pro's editing suite or very large uploads, and you're happy to pay yearly. At $14.50/month billed yearly, Pro's $2.90 per source hour is competitive with several tools above. OpusClip is also stronger in some areas:

  • Large source files: Pro accepts uploads up to 30 GB per video and public MP4 links.
  • Editing depth: AI B-roll, voice-over, video dubbing and export to Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.
  • Credit rollover: unused Pro credits roll over for two months.

If you only use OpusClip to find clips, caption them and post them, you're likely paying for features you don't touch. That's the case where switching saves the most.

If you're weighing LumiClip specifically, our LumiClip vs Opus Clip comparison covers price, automation and speaker framing side by side, including where OpusClip is stronger.

How do you switch from OpusClip without losing work?

Export what you need first, test one real video on a cheaper tool, then cancel. OpusClip clips stop being exportable after a while, depending on your plan, so don't cancel before you've downloaded them. A simple switching plan:

  • Step 1: Download your clips. Export finished clips and any you've scheduled but not posted. On Starter, media storage expires after 29 days.
  • Step 2: Note your caption style. Write down your font, colours and caption template so you can rebuild them as a brand kit in the new tool.
  • Step 3: Test the same source video. Pick one long video you've already clipped in OpusClip and run it through the free plan of the tool you're considering. Compare hooks, framing and captions side by side.
  • Step 4: Check your real monthly hours. Add up how many hours of video you uploaded last month, then divide each plan's price by those hours.
  • Step 5: Reconnect your socials. Link TikTok, YouTube and Instagram in the new tool and schedule a week of clips.
  • Step 6: Cancel OpusClip. Do this once your first scheduled clips have gone out from the new tool.

If you want clips to post themselves after the switch, our guide to auto-clipping a YouTube channel to TikTok walks through LumiClip's channel-watching setup.

How much can you save by switching from Opus Clip?

A creator clipping 5 hours of video a month pays $29 on OpusClip Pro monthly (Starter's 150 credits only cover 2.5 hours) and $9.99 on LumiClip Starter, which covers 6 hours. That's about $19 a month back, based on October 2026 list prices.

Here's the same 5-hour month on the other tools, using the prices above:

  • Katto Solo: €8.90/month, if those 5 hours are five videos of an hour or less.
  • 2short.ai Lite: $9.90/month, covering exactly 5 hours.
  • Vizard Creator: $29/month, with room for 10 hours.
  • Descript Hobbyist: $24/month, with room for 10 hours.
  • Klap Basic: $29/month for 100 clips.

Quick verdict

  • LumiClip: $9.99/month for 6 hours, about $1.67 per hour, with scheduling and an automation agent on Pro.
  • Katto: cheapest per hour if your videos are long, from about €0.89 per hour on Solo.
  • 2short.ai: $9.90/month for 5 hours, about $1.98 per hour; best for captioned YouTube videos.
  • Vizard: same $29 as OpusClip Pro, but double the minutes, about $2.90 per hour.
  • Descript: about $2.40 per hour, best if you also edit the long version.
  • Klap: per-clip pricing; good value if you're selective.
  • Submagic: best captions, but long videos use up credits fast through Magic Clips.
